The Senior Warden sits on the West side of the Lodge behind a pedestal on which there is a Gavel, a Level, a Smooth Stone held in place by a Lewis and a Column of Office.
His symbol is The Level

The Square can be found on the collar he wears and on the front of the pedestal he sits behind
The Smooth Stone or Perfect Ashlar
The smooth stone or Perfect Ashlar is held in place by a Lewis supported by a tripod, this smooth stone represents a refined Freemason.

The Square and Compasses

The Square and Compasses sit on the VSL and are the most common symbol of Freemasonry across the world.
The Column of Office
Also, on his pedestal is a column that is adorned with a Celestial Globe. This column is placed in an upright position when the Lodge is ‘open’.


A candle sits on top of a further column that represents his office. This is a Doric column and symbolically represents Strength
